Fitness is confusing! Take this pill! Eat this food! Take this vitamin! Work out this way! Buy Me! Buy Me! Buy Me! The attempt of this web site is to try to take some of the confusion out of fitness. The goal of this site is to help you through all the confusion, so that you can, hopefully, Find Your Way To Fitness. Let us begin at the beginning. Let's start by asking, "Just what is it you want to do? Knowing where you want go is the first step in finding your way. There's an old story about a person who asks for a ticket at a bus station. "Where to?" the bus station agent says. "I don't know, just give me a ticket," is the answer. Most of us don't travel that way, especially not on the bus. The bus ride is usually boring, difficult, and taxing. We want to get to our destination in the shortest possible time. In many ways it's the same with fitness. We need to figure out where we want to go. Once we know our destination, we want to get there with the least trouble, in the shortest amount of time. So first we have to ask ourselves, "Just what does fitness mean to me?" Does being fit mean looking something like this? Or, does it mean looking more like this? Perhaps the way you want to look is even different from these pictures. The point is, what you do, the details of exercise, diet, and cardio, will make a difference in the way your body looks. Hopefully these pictures will make you realize that there are a lot of different ways to look, and start you thinking about just how to reach your goal of looking the way you want. The role of genetics. Of course, it doesn't take much awareness to realize that people look different. Some are shorter, some taller, some fatter, some thinner. It's probably necessary to say that we need to set the goal of what we want to look like within the framework of our own personal genetics. But there is a problem with the idea of genetics. People often use it as an excuse. "Oh, everyone in my family's fat. There's nothing I can do about it," is simply not a true statement. Everyone in your family may have a predisposition for gaining fat, but there's certainly something you can do about it. You'll probably have to work harder at it than the few who can eat all the junk food they want and never gain an ounce, but there is something you can do about it. Now, if someone was to say, "Everyone in my family's short. There's nothing I can do about it," I'd consider that a true statement. It's like the old saying, "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Knowing the difference between what you can change for the better about your body, and what things you have to love and accept about it, is one of the first steps in finding your way to fitness.
